“If women are going to kick the tires,” McCaskill said, “they’re going to find out that this is a ticket that wants to put women in prison for having an abortion after they have been raped.”
Apparently, the senator needs help with some facts. Fact #1: McCain has always been in favor of an exception for victims of rape and incest. Fact #2: If Roe v. Wade is overturned, the issue would go back to the states, and there is no indication that abortion would carry a jail sentence. On the contrary, many crimes have no sentence and do not merit prosecution.
Congressional Quarterly correctly called out the senator on her desparate attempt to keep Obama's campaign alive.
If you live in Missouri and you've had enough, call Claire's D.C. office, and tell her that you think it is despicable to slander and outright lie about McCain's record like this. Tell her you've had enough with this level of fraud and deception and that these types of scare tactics have no place in this election. Tell Claire to stop working for Barack Obama and to start working for Missouri.

I believe that after reading the article - the statement that criminalizing abortions is a fair one. It may be a stretch but if both members of the Republican ticket say they are against abortion - one member against any exemptions - and the other member was against overruling state laws re: abortion ... then yes .... it is believable that abortion would be criminalized under their watch absent any words from them to counter this argument.
If both members are not in favor of criminalizing rape-based abortions - let them say so. It should not be too hard. The following sentence would do just fine: "I do not believe that abortions in the case of rape should be prohibited".
Not hard at all , 14 little words.

And I did call Claire. I asked her why the Republicans would claim Obama was in favor of sex ed for kindergarten students. Or why the Republicans would claim that Obama called Palin a pig with lipstick. Or why the Republicans would claim they were for any energy policy that did not include more oil.
If you are going to post Democratic claims might as well cover your bases with Republican claims - especially those that are false.
It is John McCain's ticket, which the Democrats keep forgetting, to their detriment. Palin may have her opinions on abortion, but her opinions are her own. McCain has said some version of your "14 little words," leaving no doubt about his view on the subject.
And have you ever read this blog? It's a conservative blog. It's not written by a person that claims journalistic integrity (like your good friend, Charlie Gibson.) If you don't like it, don't read it. Demanding he expose Republican "false claims" is ridiculous. But before you talk about these false claims, which are still being debated as to their credibility, consider some of Obama's outright lies. I'm still trying to do the math on how he is going to provide tax cuts to 95% of America, when 40% don't even pay federal income taxes. I guess between "math" and "hope," Obama only has room for one four letter word in his vocabulary.

No - Mr. McCain has not said those 14 little words. He has said that he wanted the State laws to have been in place, not Roe v Wade.
That would certainly re-criminalize many abortions regardless of the reason.

And I love when people make the argument that "abortions will not stop if they are illegal." People are still murdered although it is illegal; should we simply make murder legal, since it will go on anyways?

I thought the CQ article explained the inaccuracy of Claire's claims very well. Again, almost every law or ban has exceptions and to automatically assume criminalization of abortion would not carry exceptions is perposterous.
I would like to point out that the argument of rape, incest, and life/health of the mother is a red-herring the other side always puts out to stop any and all debate on abortion. The facts are that less than 2 percent of all abortions are for these reasons. Yet the left continues to use these rare and instances as justification for abortion on demand.

First of all, I realized with my first two comments I didn't leave my name, and I hate anonymous comments! I apologize for that.
Lonnie, you are pointing to liberal blogs and editorials for your facts to prove a point. It's like using Wikipedia as a source, because anyone can post anything. Sites like factcheck.org are nonpartisan and rip BOTH sides.
And your arguments about McCain and abortion still say nothing. You can absolutely be pro-life and believe in an exemption for rape and incest. Just because he says he's pro-life doesn't take away the fact that he makes that exception (however, Palin does not.)
And Brandon, as someone who has worked with women on these issues, I can tell you the vast majority of rapes go unreported (as many as 2/3.) Many women who have been victimized go in to have an abortion without explaining why they are doing so. So the 2% number, while used on pro-life websites as a fact, is probably not quite accurate.
And while McCain does not support abortion, his main goal is to overturn Roe vs Wade. That would put the decision in the hands of the state. I believe most states would allow abortion, and I would certainly hope all states would at least allow abortion for women who have been victimized in this way.
By the way, we have a race card-playing fool for a governor in KS. I'm ashamed to have a governor who would make such ignorant comments. Her insuination is insulting.
